"JAZZ @ THE SPEED OF LIGHT" DISSOLVES
BOUNDARIES BETWEEN UKRAINE, RUSSIA AND THE UK
KOKTEBEL, KIEV, MOSCOW, OXFORD – OCTOBER 18, 2006.Musigy has enabled the world’s premiere
series of international distributed live music concerts over conventional broadband
Internet at Koktebel Jazz Festival 2006.
Jazz @ the Speed of Light is an innovative project hosted by the 4th annual international
Koktebel Jazz Festival (September 14-17, 2006). The world-famous jazz musicians performed live on the main stage of the festival together with other jazz celebrities
located in remote studios across Europe connected via the Internet. Musicians and audiences in all venues were able to see each other on large video screens and hear high-quality sound, as if they were in the same place.
The facts that the concerts featuring world’s jazz stars
were conducted internationally over distances that exceeded several thousands kilometers
with conventional broadband Internet connections available to consumers allow to
claim that Jazz @ the Speed of Light was the world’s first event of its kind.
Jazz
@ the Speed of Light project has become possible owing to the innovations
of Musigy Music Conferencing technology which delivers ultra-low time delays
and precise synchronization during the transmission of high-quality digital audio
streams over the Internet. The technology and the overall performance experience were highly
acclaimed by musicians and spectators.
“Congratulations on the software and the
way it’s working. It’s fantastic, it’s incredible!”, George Haslam, a world-renowned British baritone jazz saxophonist.
Other musicians who
have participated in the
Internet concerts and jam sessions besides George Haslam include Kenny “Blues Boss”
Wayne (Canada), Andrey Kondakov (Russia), Edson “Cafe” DaSilva, Sergio Brandao,
Celso Alberti (Brazil), Leon Ptashka (Israel), Alexey Kozlov (Russia), Kiev Salsa
Kings (Ukraine), Lasse Lindgren Trio (Finland), Billy Cobham (USA, rehearsal only).
Using Musigy technology was a totally exciting experience! The idea of playing live with other
musicians over the Internet was fascinating. This software will open a new world of possibilities
for musicians all over the world, Celso Alberti, drummer at Brazil All Stars, Kundalini Boombox and various other All Star projects.
Musigy and Promo.UA, the organizers of Koktebel Jazz Festival 2006, collaborated with telecommunications operators including TeliaSonera
International Carrier (pan-European network), Pipex (UK), Synterra (Russia) and
Ukrtelecom
(Ukraine) to set up 5 venues for daily performances that connected
Koktebel, Kiev, Moscow and Oxford. The networks of all the operators involved in the project
proved to have worked perfectly.
“TeliaSonera’s international carrier network can
meet the requirements of the most demanding interactive software applications. The
live transmission was working flawlessly and proved that real-time music interaction
over the Internet is already a reality in Europe.”, Nick Surin, co-Founder and CTO,
Musigy, Inc.
In Western Europe and especially in the UK consumer broadband technologies
are getting widespread and mature enough to bring jamming experience and live interactive
Internet concerts to everyone’s homes.
“PIPEX is introducing these technologies
into the home so that anybody with an Internet connection will be able to the same
things very-very soon” , Eric Smith, UK Studio Technical Coordinator, Jazz @ the
Speed of Light and BullPen Studios
